The Mission of the United States Civil War Center is to facilitate the study of the Civil War from the perspective of every conceivable profession, occupation, and academic discipline. As a major expression of that mission, we are creating a page for each of these perspectives.
For further discussion of the nature, uses, and importance of interdisciplinary
subjects, see:
Interdisciplinary Studies in the New
Millennium.
Ultimately, experts will provide the basic information and insights, but the interdisciplinary approach is intended to encourage specialists
to venture into other areas
to become myriad-minded
to speculate
and to take leaps of imagination and intellect with generous-minded understanding that we all do so with varying degrees of preparation and expertise
The consequence of this interdisciplinary approach is that you will not only enhance your understanding of the Civil War but that, having applied it to a subject you do not normally address, you will return to your discipline with a richer understanding and appreciation of its nature and possibilities.
You will also enjoy the humanistic and practical experience of relating the principles and concepts of your own discipline to other disciplines. We are developing a methodology for engaging in interdisciplinary investigation.
You are invited to contribute to the creation of those pages in the subject of which you are an expert or in which you have some expertise or special interest.
